Losers of America

The earth has stopped shaking after Hollywood Fred’s entry into the race (I’m going to refer to him as “Dud Thompson” from now on–this guy is a snoozer!), and OBL is coming back for more apparently, with a new marketing campaign ready to launch on 9/11. Bush had, for him, a “bad day” in Australia, which is par for the course until you actually read it all. I love this part:

Then, speech done, Bush confidently headed out — the wrong way.

He strode away from the lectern on a path that would have sent him over a steep drop. Howard and others redirected the president to center stage, where there were steps leading down to the floor of the theater.

Hilarious. Except that, well, it’s not. Embarrassing America for all of history, this guy is, right in front of our eyes.

But none of this is important. What is, is that the 2007 Loser Pool has started again, and along with it, the NFL season, which warms my heart and bones. And even sweeter, I got the jump on it by picking New Orleans to lose last night to the Colts, which they did by a score of 41-10. So now I can sit back and relax and wait for the Bears game Sunday against the Chargers. Damn, it’s good to have football back. And so soon!

Unfortunately, the Cubs are still teasing, and insuring misery for late September or early October. Still tied for first, they continue to haunt my every step, and I don’t like it. Actually, it’s better than the alternative, so let’s just take it easy. It is Friday, the gloom and doom is out, and I barely made it into work before the rains. Tonight I will not go to see the Flaming Lips but instead to the Hideout Block Party for Bloc Party. It’s not a major statement, I just have seen the Lips a lot and there’s no new album out, so I didn’t feel compelled to go. I’m sure it’ll be awesome anyway. Oh wait, I just remembered, I never wrote about seeing Rufus Wainwright at Ravinia a couple of weeks ago. Well, see the picture above this one. It’s not Rufus, but it looks cool.
