Watching President Bill Clinton last night on David Letterman’s show (watch here if you want) I was struck, as I always am, by the contrast between his comfortable, off-the-cuff conversation and what we have endured for the past seven years with Mr. Bush. And I happened to see him on “Today” this morning as well with Matt Lauer, promoting his book called Giving, and answering questions about his wife and the rest of the candidates. It’s a huge drop then, to hear Bush’s comment regarding his post-presidency plans: “I’ll give some speeches, just to replenish the ol’ coffersâ€? (from the new book Dead Certain by Robert Draper). Ever the uninspiring leader, he is determined to continue his mediocrity once he leaves office. But he’ll be rich.
Also of note: Another terrorist plot was foiled in Germany, the result of investigative police work by international law enforcement groups. Not one bomb was dropped in order to foil this plot. Weird.
